Top 12 Bookstores

We voted on our favourite bookstores, and here they are:

  • Bank Street Books, New York, New York. Bank Street is known in the community, the tri-state area, and country as the bookstore with an amazing selection and a friendly, knowledgeable staff. Our staff members love children and books, and they apply their experience with both each time they read, review, and recommend a title. Not content to stick to the bestsellers, our staff members are constantly reading in an effort to find the perfect books for each customer and every situation.
  • Mockingbird Books, Seattle, Washington (one of our debut author/illustrators worksbookstoreopen.jpg here). Open since 2008, Mockingbird Books is a primarily children’s bookstore specializing in knowledgeable, friendly service.
  • Books of Wonder, New York, New York. Founded in 1980, Books of Wonder is New York City’s largest and oldest children’s bookstore and the city’s leading specialist in children’s literature.
  • Green Bean Books, Portland, Oregon. Green Bean Books is a wild and whimsical community-based, independent children’s bookstore in the Alberta Arts District of Portland, Oregon.  Our little red house is home to new books, used books, red books, blue books, books for babies through the most grownup grownup! 
  • The Book Stall, Winnetka, Illinois.
  • Schuler Books and Music, Grand Rapids, MichiganConnecting readers and writers throughout Michigan.
  • Parnassus Books, Nashville, Tennessee An independent bookstore for independent people…Parnassus stocks the best selections of literature, non-fiction, children’s, local interests, and the arts. The store also boasts an extensive local author section.
  • Anderson’s Bookshop, Naperville, Illinois. We have six generations that have lived and breathed this community; we are here to stay, thrive, and help make it a great place for all nvb_storewith whom we come in contact. 
  • Newtonville Books, Newton, Massachussetts.
  • The Flying Pig Bookstore, Shelburne, Vermont. One of seven bookstores around the country that help serve as anchors for their wonderful towns (as listed by The Wall Street Journal).
  • Politics & Prose, Washington, D.C. “The bookstore will offer superior service and unusual book choices; it will serve as a gathering place for people interested in reading and discussing books.” We have built a community and the community has built the store.
  • Red Balloon Bookshop, St. Paul, MinnesotaRed Balloon Bookshop has been connecting RB_exterior_springchildren, teens, and adults in the Twin Cities area with great books and great authors for 30 years.
